The Stranger

Cast: Edward G. Robinson, Orson Welles, Loretta Young, Richard Long
Genre: Thriller, Mystery
Year: 1946
Length: 91 Min
Color/B&W: B&W
Origin: USA
Directors: Orson Welles

Synopsis: A government agent, Robinson, is assigned to the manhunt of a Nazi from Hitler’s regime who has taken the new identity of a history professor and is about to marry the daughter of a Supreme Court Judge. “The Stranger” is probably Welles’ most neglected, but most interesting film. It is distinctly Welles as evidenced by deep-focus photography, lighting, and warping of space; evil beneath the calm and the geometric traps in which the characters are caught. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing–Original Story.
